Peru Amazon Andes Peaks 10 days -with 2day Inca Trail

The Peru Amazon Andes Peaks tour takes you from Lima to Puno, to the Peruvian jungle, to the Machu Picchu trail and to Lake Titicaca in between.

This 10 day colorful tour will have you digging deeper into the Peruvian people and culture, exploring the lush and diverse landscape, drinking Pisco sours throughout and indulging in one of the world’s best culinary cultures.

In this trip you will:

  • Walk the 2day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, the world-famous ‘hidden’ Inca city
  • Explore Titicaca lake, highest and biggest lake of South-America. Here you will experience a native homestay with a local family
  • Spend 3 nights in the Amazon jungle rainforest
  • Stay at Lima and Cusco city

Day-to-day:

Day 1
Arrive in exciting city of Lima, one of the world’s top culinary cultures. Spend free time exploring the historical and colorful Peruvian capital.
Start with a stop to the Plaza de Armas for Peru’s own Tunki coffee together with a chicharron; a deep fried pork, fried sweet potatoes and red onion sandwich.
Stay at the Hotel Miraflores Lodge (or comparable) in Miraflores.

Day 2
Fly to Puerto Maldonado – Deep in the Peruvian Amazon. Nearly 50% of the world’s plant and animal life live in the Amazon jungle; there’s 1800 species of butterflies and 200 species of mosquito.
Take a two-hour boat trip to the jungle lodge. Head into the jungle with a guide and learn about the Amazon’s wildlife, jungle food and flora and fauna.
Stay at the jungle lodge.

Day 3
Early wake up for a boat ride where we hope to spot giant river otters, caimen, hoatzin and wading birds.

In the afternoon make a journey to a local family farmland.

Day 4
Leave the Amazon jungle by boat and back to Puerto Maldonado. Take a flight to Cusco. Acclimate in Cusco in preparation for Machu Picchu.

Once you acclimate to the altitude (you’re at about 3300m or 10,826 ft.), you will be able to appreciate Cusco. Aside from the Plaza de Armas, Sacred Valley and the abundance of Inca ruins, Cusco is also an amazing place with cobblestone streets, bars, restaurants and shops.
See if you can spot the huge ‘Viva el Peru’ carved into the side of a hill.

Take a walking tour of central Cusco. Explore Cusco and take in the local lure, culture and sites local sights during your free time.
Stay at the Puma Hotel (or comparable) close to the center with a beautiful view on the ancient city.

Day 5 and 6
Walking the 2 Day-Short Inca Trail, we will walk (10 km/6.3 miles) along an original Inca trail. The trail is filled with rich flora and fauna and provides great vistas and scenery throughout. Visit the Inca Trail’s most beautiful site, Wiñay Wayna. It is an Inca site, a neighbor to Machu Picchu, on an elevated perch.

Machu Picchu is a World Heritage site. This 15th-century Incan citadel site is located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. Set high up in in the Andes Mountains in Peru, in the Cusco Region, it is in the Urubamba Province, above the Urubamba River Valley.

Day 5 – A Photographers Dream
Prepare to take tons of photos of the fantastic panoramas of the iconic Andes mountains. Pass through a verdant cloud forest and the many varieties of plants, flowers and birds. You won’t want to miss viscachas (rabbit-like Chinchillas) and spectacled bears, both of which we hope to see.

Start the 10km trail into Sacred Valley, the cloud forest and Andes Mountains. Arrive to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) by late afternoon. Experience your first view of Machu Picchu, spread out on the mountain below. The light at this time of day is pitch perfect for pictures and the site is empty of tourists!
Carry on the trail a little way longer to Aguas Calientes.
Stay at the Hostel Aquas Calientes.

You can dip into the natural hot springs and indulge in toop massage, as there are lots of great massage-spots in town, as well as restaurants. Enjoy a good meal and some rest as tomorrow morning is very early in Machu Picchu day.

Day 6 – Machu Picchu
Get up for an early bus to Machu Picchu and experience the panoramic view of Machu Picchu at sunrise. Explore Machu Picchu on a guided tour, after that free time to explore or (with permits) climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain.

Return to Cusco by train (to Ollantaytambo) and bus to relax, unwind and spend free time exploring Cusco’s ambiance, eateries and sights.

Day 7
Catch a bus to Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest and biggest lake of South-America. Enjoy the beautiful sceneries of the Altiplano on the way.
Stay at the city lake hotel (or comparable).

Day 8
Take a boat across Lake Titicaca to the Uros’ floating reed islands, continue to Amantani Island.

Enjoy a homestay with a local Urus Indian family. Indulge in some home cooking, a few local beers and a bit of musical entertainment. You will be asked to join in. So, don’t be shy.

Day 9
Indulge in a breakfast with your host family. Take time to explore the island.
Board an afternoon boat back to Puno.
Stay at the city lake hotel.

Day 10
Trip ends in the morning, after breakfast in Puno. Fly from Juliaca to Lima.
If you have free time, you can explore the shops around the airport in Juliaca.

During the day you can also see, parrots, monkeys, snakes, birds…. be aware, that you’re not in a zoo, this means you can have luck and see a lot of animals and sometimes you’re not.
It was an amazing trip in the jungle, I really can recommend Marco as a tourgide. He’s reliable and makes good tours!
